Versatile Bio is a mobile and versatile real-time biosensor acquisition system, optimized for out-of-the-lab applications that require great freedom of movement. With a simple placement on the arm or waist, it can simultaneously monitor 21ch (extensible to 35ch) of bipolar electrical biosignals (ExG), analog biosignals (GSR, RESP, TEMP, etc.), movement activity and location (EMG, IMUs, GPS, etc.), behavior inputs (pedals and push buttons), and communication inputs / outputs (LPT, digital, etc.). Its great multi-sensory versatility, its simplicity of use, comfort for the researcher and for the end user, and optimization to work in mobility conditions, open a wide range of possibilities to use it both in the laboratory and in outpatient research applications out of the laboratory.


Multisensory versatility from a single device

The Versatile Bio system allows recording up to 16 unipolar, bipolar and digital analog channels simultaneously from a single device, which enables having the highest degree of synchronization possible between them. The 17 sensory modalities available with the equipment cover practically any human monitoring sensor for behavior. Its great multisensory versatility makes Versatile Bio a versatile device and suitable for a large number of applications ranging from basic research in neuroscience to sports sciences or clinical sciences among many others.

Optimized for a reliable and comfortable record outside the laboratory

The Versatile Bio system has been optimized to guarantee a high quality of biosignal recording in mobile use contexts and in particular outside the laboratory. To this end, a single ergonomic amplifier is key that provides great set-up convenience for the researcher and for the use of the participant, and advanced active shielding in ExC measurements that ensure high reliability even in movement or noisy environments.

Freedom of movement for hours

Versatile Bio is a system that has a compact and wireless design amplifier that is placed on the arm, waist or leg giving full freedom of movement to the participant. The record can be stored on an SD card or sent by Bluetooth 2.1 or 4G wireless technology for remote monitoring, thus eliminating the presence and intrusion by researchers. The system allows more than 8 hours of continuous recording with the same participant in data transfer mode via Bluetooth or 4G, and more than 12 hours in the case of local SD recording.

Ease of use for the researcher

The equipment has been designed with features that favor a simple and intuitive use, which makes the data collection a quick and comfortable exercise. Researchers in biometrics can begin to use the device easily without great previous experience thanks to the visual aids of the amplifier, and the help of the procedures guided by the system.

High acceptance by the user

Versatile Bio is a device that has a high acceptance by the user thanks to its user-centered design. Its aesthetics are careful and technological, it has a great usability and ergonomics making it very easy and comfortable to use both on the arm and on the waist. In addition, the use of a single amplifier facilitates the set-up and greatly reduces the feeling of rejection of the over-instrumentation that appears when using multiple boxes with sensors distributed throughout the body.


Versatile Bio is a polyvalent biosensor recording system optimized to be used in applications that require high mobility. It is composed of a 21 channel amplifier (extensible to 35ch), the biosensors that are desired within a wide repertoire, and multiplatform software to control the equipment. The maintenance is simple and hygienic and the transport is carried out in a small briefcase.

1. Sensors

Versatile Bio has up to 16 channels to simultaneously and synchronously record the following sensors:

  • Unipolar analog sensors: breathing (RESP), airflow (MAF), cardiovascular activity (BVP), galvanic skin response (GSR), snoring, temperature (TEMP), optical trigger (photodiode), acoustic trigger (microphone).
  • Bipolar analog sensors: electromyogram (EMG), electrocardiogram (ECG), electrooculography (EOG).
  • Digital sensors: LPT cable, 3-bit pushbutton (versions in 1, 3 and 7 buttons), pedal-type button, digital output 0/1.
  • Digital communication sensors: inertial movement unit of 9 d.o.f (IMU), and GPS.
  • Digital I/O: LPT cable and digital output 0/1.

Furthermore, if any additional sensor that is not available is needed, it can be ordered.


2. Amplifier

Small and light equipment with a weight of 176gr able to record at 256 Hz the 16 sensory channels. It also has a digital auxiliary input for hardware synchronization with other devices. The connection of the equipment is made via Bluetooth with a range of up to 10 meters and allows recording for 8 hours continuously. It is also possible to record in your MicroSD for more freedom of movement for 12 hours.

3. Support system

The amplifier can be placed on the table in a laboratory set-up, but can also be placed comfortably on the arm, waist or leg for set-ups that require high mobility thanks to a comfortable circular fabric support, adaptable and adjustable.

4. Included Software

Versatile Bio includes software that allows controlling and executing studies in an easy and simple way. It can be executed on any computer or tablet with Windows 7 or higher, and Linux Ubuntu. The software allows device configuration, start-stop recording, live data visualization (online), import and playback of recorded data, and export of data in CSV format compatible with Matlab, Python, etc.


With other hardware technologies

The equipment can be combined with many other hardware technologies to obtain more information about human behavior (such as biosensors, eye-trackers, location technology, video and audio recording, etc.). This integration can be done through any of the Bitbrain platforms that maintain the highest level of synchronization with very low latency and without the need for the participant to carry a laptop.

With software platforms

The equipment can be used within Bitbrain's modular neuroscience research platform for simultaneous recording with other technologies and to export data for analysis with classic analysis tools such as Matlab or Python, among others. In addition, for any special requirement at the hardware or software level, Bitbrain has customized adaptation services.

With development tools

Bitbrain provides an ecosystem of programming tools to accelerate the development of neurotechnology products and services based on their equipment. From programming SDKs for Windows or Linux, to a complete development platform with units already available for synchronized acquisition, processing and interaction.
