The Versatile EEG systems are compact and portable systems for recording 8/16/32 EEG channels in real time. They are designed for versatile monitoring outside the laboratory, providing great comfort to the researcher and freedom of movement to the user. With water sensors that are placed in standard positions, highly stable contacts and active shields, they allow reliable and precise monitoring even in ambulatory conditions or in the presence of electromagnetic noise. Its simplicity of use and comfort, together with a quick placement that does not need to apply electrolytic gels, open a large number of possibilities for use both in the laboratory and in outpatient or out-of-laboratory research applications.


Optimized for a reliable and comfortable recording outside the laboratory

The Versatile EEG system has been optimized for use outside the laboratory, ensuring a quality EEG record, with great comfort for the researcher and freedom of movement for the participant. For this, the following are key aspects: a) its innovative system of water sensors that allow simple and quick preparations, and that do not require the participant to wash their head after use; b) the sensor support method that guarantees stable contacts over time even in mobility conditions; c) its advanced electronics with active shields to eliminate noise and minimize the effect of artifacts.

Freedom of movement for hours

Versatile EEG is a system that has a compact amplifier and wireless design that is placed on the head giving full freedom of movement to the participant. The EEG recording can be stored locally on an SD card or sent via Bluetooth or 4G mobile technologies for remote monitoring, eliminating the researcher's intrusion and thus increasing the ecology of the final setup. The system allows between 6 and 8 hours of uninterrupted recording with the same participant, thanks to the high humidity retention in the sensors and amplifier autonomy of more than 8 hours.

Flexibility to carry out any type of research

The Versatile EEG sensors can be placed in any of the standard positions of the 10/20 and 10/10 systems so that it can be used as a versatile research system. Although its design is optimized for applications that require great freedom of movement, it is also suitable for stationary laboratory applications such as evoked potentials or spontaneous EEG. Its inputs allow the use of optical or acoustic triggers to synchronize events, and synchronization with other stimulation platforms typical of scientific research.

Quick and easy placement

Versatile EEG's design has been made to facilitate and accelerate its placement, for which cables and connectors have been reduced to their minimum expression. In addition, to reduce the installation time, the cap can be prepared with all the sensors moistened before placing it on the head of the participant. In this way, the placement of the cap requires only 4-5 minutes to record quality EEG.

Good acceptance by the user

The Versatile EEG family is a device that has a good acceptance by the user. Its placement is fast, the equipment is comfortable to wear even for long periods of time, and eliminates the feeling of rejection that end users have with devices that require electrolytic gels (it is not necessary to scratch the skin to achieve conductivity, nor neither is it necessary to wash the head when finishing the recording).

Easy maintenance

Versatile EEG systems sensors only need running water to work, so there is no need to apply electrolyte substances between the electrode and the skin. This means that no gel cans, syringes, or cleaning wipes are needed, reducing the cost considerably and simplifying the maintenance of the equipment.


Versatile EEG is an EEG recording system consisting of a neoprene cap with sensors ready to work with water, a light amplifier of 8/16/32 channels, and a multiplatform software to control the equipment. The maintenance is very simple and the transport is carried out in a small briefcase.

1. Layout

The Versatile EEG systems have 8/16/32 sensors (depending on the model) that can be distributed flexibly in standard positions of the 10/20 system and the 10/10 system to adapt the measurement points to the research that is about to be carried out.

2. Cap

As it is made of fabric, the Versatile EEG cap adapts to the specific morphology of each head and has holes to increase comfort and perspiration. The clamping is done by means of a chin guard to prevent the cap from being dislodged. The hat is available in 4 sizes (S, M, L and XL) that cover all population from children 4-5 months to adults.

3. Sensors

Water sensors designed to maintain humidity for more than 6 hours, and to guarantee a stable electrode-skin contact, minimizing impedances and noise derived from unstable contacts. They also have active shields to minimize artifacts due to movements or electromagnetic interference. The size of the cables can be long (use on table), medium (use at waist), short (head use), or even adapted for specific layouts on the head.

4. Amplifier

The amplifiers of the Versatile EEG systems are small and light (82/125/164gr depending on model). They allow to record at 256 Hz their 8/16/32 EEG channels and have an internal 9-axis motion unit to simultaneously measure the movement. It has online relative impedance measurement to correct the assembly before and during recording. It also has a digital and analog auxiliary input that allows synchronization with other devices or add other sensors. The connection of the equipment is made via Bluetooth with a range of up to 10 meters and allows recording for 8 hours continuously. It is also possible to record in your MicroSD for more freedom of movement for 10 hours.

5. Included Software

Versatile EEG includes software that allows controlling and executing studies in an easy and simple way. It can be executed on any computer or tablet with Windows 7 or higher, and Linux Ubuntu. The software allows device configuration, start-stop recording, live data visualization (online), import and playback of recorded data, and export of data in CSV format compatible with Matlab, Python, etc.


With other hardware technologies

The equipment can be combined with many other hardware technologies to obtain more information about human behavior (such as biosensors, eye-trackers, location technology, video and audio recording, etc.). This integration can be done through any of the Bitbrain platforms that maintain the highest level of synchronization with very low latency and without the need for the participant to carry a laptop.

With software platforms

The equipment can be used within the Bitbrain modular platforms for research applications in neuroscience or health. The platforms allow simultaneous recording with other technologies and perform the analysis autonomously or using Bitbrain's automatic analysis. Additionally, for any special requirement, Bitbrain has customized adaptation services.

With development tools
